ORIGINAL HIGH QUALITY ARTWORKS OR PHOTOGRAPHSOriginals or photographs or transparencies of at least 1/4 - 1/2 of actual finished size, and are clear and good quality. 35mm slides are not the best for reproduction as they loose a lot when enlarged. Negatives must be accompanied by an accurate colour reference.
ORIGINAL HIGH QUALITY BROMIDES OR FILM POSITIVESOriginal high quality colour separated bromides or positives of at least 1/4 - 1/2 of actual finished size. Please supply with PMS colour references or an accurate colour reference. (see accurate colour reference section)
ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR FILESVector files, with PMS references or an accurate colour reference (see accurate colour reference section) Combination vector and raster image (graphics) with PMS references or an accurate colour reference, any embedded graphics should be at least 600 DPI at actual finished size.
These can be saved as .eps, .pdf or .ai version 8 preferred. The advent of so much anti spam filtering sometimes means files arrive but have lost their content. It is a good idea to encapsulate the data by compressing the file before sending. This is not an issue of size, just a trick which often works.
COREL DRAW FILESCorel draw files can be supplied as per the instructions for Adobe Illustrator, and saved as Corel Draw format .cdr
ADOBE PHOTOSHOP FILESGraphics can be supplied as .tiff or .eps with a minimum resolution of 600 DPI at actual size, and must be accompanied by an accurate colour reference. JPEG files are acceptable only where the resolutions is sufficient and only where no other file is available as jpegs tend to have distorted colour and loss of clarity.
ACCEPTABLE MEDIAFiles can be supplied on email (to a maximum of 5MB file), CD, DVD, Zip or Floppy. Our preference is email for small files, and CD, DVD or Zip for the larger files.
ACTUAL FINISHED SIZEActual finished size refers to the size your image will be printed at for the ceramic item, for example, if the print is to be 8cm tall and 8cm wide, we would like the artwork to be this size or larger, and at least 300 DPI resolution. Anything less than this will result in a poor reproduction, and certainly if the file is much smaller we would not proceed with the job.
ACCURATE COLOUR REFERENCEAn accurate colour reference, is something physical, something we can hold in our hand, say printed items or original artwork, which we can hold up to our monitor and make the best colour match on screen as is possible. You must be satisfied with the colours of the reference as this will be our target. Simply sending an electronic file is not sufficient as monitors vary greatly and what you are looking at on your monitor could be completely different to what we are looking at on ours, so if we agree with what we see on screen, and your monitor is different, you wont be happy with the job.
FONTSPlease embed or convert all fonts to outlines, the one exception to this would be where you are printing on a tapered mug. In this instance, please supply both an embedded file, and a file where the type is still font, as well as the names of the fonts used.
A WORD ABOUT SCANNING PRINTED ITEMSOccasionally there will be no option but to supply scans from printed items. This is always a last case scenario as the reproduction from scanned items is poor. The end result will be duller and less sharp than the scanned item, and usually has a darker/greyer impression. If scanning printed items, be aware that you may also be infringing on copyright.
